The other criteria of Khmer City in the pre-historic period in present-day Thailand is raised to understand more of the Khmer roots in this region where it has been a former part of Khmer race’s original territories.

After the Kingdom of Angkor had collapsed, the territories of the present-day, Thailand were separated from Khmer territory however the Khmer culture remained not Thai’s. During this period Thai’s were the most recent group of people who came to the nation in the 13th century. According to our study, Khmer ancestors in the pre-historic period and particularly the Metal Age liked to construct the spiral-shaped urban areas in Khmer territories or on the ditch-surrounding hill for emergency war or drought protection. Therefore, those ancient remarkable urban areas are generally the spiral-shaped with surrounding ditches which have been found in the Indochina’s various regions. Most recently, The result of the Thai specialist’s study during the ancient Khmer, territories which was located on the other side of Dang Rek mountain range has improved the extra understanding of Khmer race in the past. It was because those ancient cities were the foundation of Khmer social progress although the extent of geography had changed.

In other words, it was broadly known that Khmer ancestors in the ancient time had lost some regions because of the battle. In 1000 BC, Khmer ancestors had developed both small and big towns throughout these regions, where there were large cities in the Induisation period before Indian cultural promotion. Such circumstances were very necessary for Khmer history that those Khmer cities that had been constructed before had a great influence of the Indian culture.

Thus, the proof of those large cities would be alive in the daily lives of Khmer-root residents as well as in their conscience which was in deep Khmer’s emotions. For Khmer people from the 19th to the 21st Century, having seen the ditches and the ancient cities on the hill, Khmer people always regarded them as Khmer’s ones. It means that Khmer people have been unable to forget about their ancestors’ masterpiece in the previous periods although their native territories were occupied by Thailand in the post-Angkorean Period. From the pre-Induisation period to this modern period, Khmer people never relocated because there are native residents, most of whom still maintained their language and traditions as well as some have the Kuy’s kinship. It was added that, through our study, there are different shapes of urban areas in the pre-history. Similarly, this study led Khmer people to understand more of the relationship between those cities and some other regions in the present-day Kingdom of Cambodia.

especially in Burirum province, Thailand, the round-shaped and spiral-shaped urban areas with the surrounding ditches have been found. The other noticeable structures of ancient Khmer cities which are located on the flat hill has an oval shaped form. Besides this, what should be noted is that those locations are the round-shaped urban areas with levels. Some other round-shaped cities have the round corners, surrounding ditches, and belt-shaped hill which look impressive. Having seen the photos of cities from a far, we have recognized that there are some different patterns which we have never seen before. Ancient Khmer people living in this region remained. Some other urban cities have similar shapes to the above cities we just illustrated.

More significantly, some structures are occasionally parallel whereas some are not parallel due to the geography during those times.

In summary, the proof of ancient architecture in the late Metal Age is the fundamental concept expressing the organization of that region called Urbanization. And before the absorption of Indian influence in the early 1st Century A.D, the socio-cultural achievement has brought about urbanization along with the progress of Mon-Khmer communities (M. Tranet).
